Review on Retevis Waterproof Digital Recording Channels by Kipp Amundson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great reliable radio but tedious to program.

So this was my first radio ever. They appear to be of excellent quality and the range is very good. A few miles, at least in the same wooded area where I live. My biggest criticism of this radio is the frequency selection and programming. You can't just click on frequencies with the tuner, you have to pre-program the desired frequencies with a free software on the Retevis website. The instructions are terrible, the website is terrible, and the software isn't very user-friendly. I was able to figure it out by fiddling with it. Had I known this was the case before I bought it, I probably would have gone the other way, but the water resistance, dust resistance, durability, and battery performance are within budget requirements. Also, being able to send and receive GPS coordinates and text messages on digital frequencies is pretty damn cool. This is a great radio for communication between people in a pre-planned group, but not at all suitable if you want to follow the air, contact unfamiliar people, etc.

Pros
  • DMR radios with 100% waterproof IP67 rating, can be used normally after immersed in 1 meter deep water for 30 minutes; Broadband with 1024 channels and 64 zones supports more connectivity
Cons
  • No
