It took my cats about a week to start sleeping in it. I didn't have any catnip to sprinkle on my bed, so I grabbed one of the kitty towels and wrapped it around the pillow. The pillow is very soft and for easier cleaning I wrap the pillow in a towel and my cats can still keep warm with the extra layer on top of the pillow. I always take it off when I'm not home, but there have been times I've left it on for days and forgot to turn it off, and it still holds up great and never overheats. I would put it in the sun and my cats would love it as they would be very warm and cozy in bed and in the sun.
