Portable stand with modifications meets my nonprofit's need to have a properly sized surface for a laptop used by guest speakers. Problems come from both sides. The tripod leg section does not move smoothly from the stowed position to the working position. I've used WD-40 on the slip joint and waxed the pipe, but it's still difficult. My concern is that the thin tripod braces will bend and eventually break during the assembly of the tripod. Lip border 1/2 inch high. We designed our own padded insert so you can place your laptop high enough to expose the HDMI or USB ports that your speaker needs to access on your laptop to connect to other devices. While the clickable area of the mouse pad can be used with either the right or left hand, a smooth surface is not the norm for use, a mouse pad on top is required. Since it's about 6" x 8" you can cut out a real mouse pad and glue it onto the extension.
