tl;dr - Truly a standard of professional video installations. A few flaws keep it from getting 5 stars but these players are still my favorite. First the PROS: I work as an installer for a museum that specializes in video installations. I'm also a video artist. I have a lot of experience both installing videos and troubleshooting various media players. I can say with confidence that this is the best on the market right now. A HUGE reason is the seamless loop. Other media players play a "loading" animation between loops that you can't turn off, or display the filename in each loop. It's not like this. They are tiny in all dimensions and very easy to hide on a projector or behind a monitor. The menu is simple and without unnecessary animations. They are well made and will last a long time if not dropped. If your video is formatted as H264 on a FAT32 USB drive, you won't have any problems. Which brings me to the CONS: According to the product specification, you should be able to use USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 formatted in FAT32, ExFAT and NTFS. Unfortunately, that's not true, at least in my experience. In fact, the only usable format is FAT32. I do not know why. Others say they got lucky with ExFAT, but I don't. I tried USB 3.0 first and figured the problem might be with newer USBs, so I switched to ExFAT on USB 2.0. Vain. Same story with NTFS. Which leads to the main downside: when formatting a drive on a Mac, your options are really limited. This player does not support Mac OS Extended format. If you are using a Mac and want to use this player, you need to format it to FAT32, which may not be a problem. if your file is larger than 4GB. In this case, you need to format in ExFAT. Other reviewers please correct me if I'm wrong. Again, I've read reviews claiming I could play videos from an ExFAT or NTFS formatted drive, but again I didn't. With a drive formatted in NTFS, the USB stick was recognized but the file on it was not. If the drive is formatted with ExFAT, the drive will not be recognized. It looks like using a USB 3.0 drive is also causing problems. Maybe future firmware updates will fix this problem. I also had a mysterious lag issue with H264 encoded video. This will be a video that will play fine on the computer, but will slow down when it gets to the player. I'm not sure why this is happening. These can be errors during the encoding process, but again, the file will play fine on a computer. I solved this problem by re-exporting videos with identical specs. Of course, this depends on whether you have a computer running Premiere or a similar application nearby. Unless. then ok. Your video will be delayed. I will say that Micca's support team is doing a good job. I contacted support about the above issue and although their solution didn't help, they got back to me fairly quickly. All in all, I can still recommend this player. Its ease of use, size and smooth loop make it indispensable for museum installations. It's also a staple for new media artists.
