Burnout travel coffee mug ain't bad. It is based on the same principle that we can all observe in the evening after a sunny day: heat dissipation. (More specifically, the first law of thermodynamics/the law of conservation of energy). Just like your concrete driveway, patio, or brick wall exposed to the sun all day will radiate heat for some time after the sun goes down, by using materials that absorb heat efficiently, this mug gradually releases and holds heat for several hours so the contents of the cup warm. .In order for this mug to function as intended, it is REQUIRED to preheat the container (mug) with hot water. If you don't do this, the cup will still effectively absorb and gradually release the heat from your coffee, but this will result in the coffee remaining warm for a longer period of time. As you can see from my photo, I make insulating the beer mugs convenient since I drink coffee very slowly. This mug works. (obviously since it's based on scientific principles - the system is as predictable as gravity). The great thing about the mug is that it works AND is almost identical in size to the much more common but much less effective travel mugs. tried a very expensive battery powered mug that was amazingly big and heavy but had less capacity than a burnout mug. Not only was the battery operated unit bulky, but it couldn't keep my coffee warm enough to enjoy for more than 2-3 hours. Watch. In contrast, the Burnout mug consistently keeps my coffee at either the "right” temperature or a slightly lower temperature for over 4 hours – as long as I heat the mug properly. For me, this mug only has two downsides. Over many, many years of drinking coffee, I've developed muscle memory that compels me to slide the locking mechanism on the side of the mug to close the lid. This mug closes very well, never leaks, but closes by moving the clasp away from the opening. I suspect this isn't really a design issue, but an issue related to a long-ingrained habit I've developed. But as a result, I had multiple spatters and accompanying curses. The second problem is the rim of the cup. It's pretty smooth. If it protruded about 1/16 inch further I think that would be perfect. As it stands, it's pretty easy to accidentally "lose" a drop or two with every sip if you're not careful. I have not experienced this problem with other travel mugs. Conclusion: I love the mug, it's built like a locomotive and should accompany me for a lifetime, it doesn't stop working and it looks good. A slight design change would have made the mug perfect, but I would definitely buy it again as it is in the current design.
