Got this for my smaller 3 gallon pool. I've always had UV lamps for saltwater aquariums. It really reduces algae as well as some fish diseases. It really helps keep the water crystal clear. The most important thing about them is that they must be fully submerged in water, not the open water that you or the fish see, as the light will kill them, so it must be hidden from them. in a sump or behind a tank in a filtration system. This particular model does not have a built in timer so you will need to buy one because you really only need to run it for 3-5 hours a day. In my experience, they typically last around 2-3 years with 3 hours of daily use.
