I compared the new JBL headset to my old Jabra headphones. Overall the JBL is better for calls due to the slightly clearer mic, you can use the left or right earbud separately (on Jabra you have to use the right earbud if you only want to use one) and it has longer battery life. In terms of music quality, they appear to be about the same, with both headsets reproducing pleasant highs and punchy lows. I wouldn't compare them to more expensive in-ear headphones, but they do a great job of listening to music while commuting, exercising, etc. But there's still room for improvement. JBL doesn't seem to have support for aptx HD and other high data rate Bluetooth protocols, I assume they have that at this price point and will be a new product on the market. Also, the touch controls are pretty finicky, I still don't get the hang of it, and the delay between tapping the earcup and executing a command can be confusing because you don't always know if a command is registered. A notice; The Jabra seems to fit my ear better, but I haven't tried all the different sizes of ear tips that JBL comes with, so it might just be me. But I still often used the Jabra instead of the JBL, mostly because of the simpler tactile buttons and the way they fit my ear. Also, Jabra has a slimmer charging case that fits better in my pocket and still has enough battery reserve for my use case. Also, I ran into some weird bugs with JBL. When I first used them and put the headphones back in the case, I reopened the case and there was a high pitched electrical squeak that stopped when I closed and reopened the case. I saw this happen to a YouTube reviewer and it was good. Even if I put the headset back into the charging case during a call, JBL still hijacks the Bluetooth connection and I have to manually switch back to my phone in the call options menu. That doesn't happen with Jabra. Overall: I think with a few updates to fix bugs, the addition of various touch control customization options with better feedback, and aptx HD support, this could be a stunning product, but those few things are holding it back.
