Simply put, I've had too many broken wires over the years. So far, it has always been a dream to be able to simply buy new cables without replacing entire headphones. SOL makes affordable in-ear headphones that are durable enough for everyday use, sound fantastic (read better than the Beats) and also give you the option to easily swap out broken parts. This company made it happen with their team of designers and sound engineers. If they could lower the price of the wires that would be great. I only bought them because the standard cable was an iPhone only compatible accordion which didn't work with my Samsung Galaxy S3. Buying them over headphones isn't the best option in the world, but I think the point is that the choice is yours.
