Review on Dell S2817Q 4K HD LCD Monitor - High-Resolution Display (3840x2160p) - FBA_S2817Q by Marvin Jones

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Even the highest resolution was legible, but now I choose 2560x1440

Today I received my S2817Q 28" 4K monitor from Revain Warehouse Deals. I bought it to use with my 2012 MacBook Pro non-Retina to replace the 1080p monitor I gave my son for college. I had questions about the external resolution my laptop would support, but based on other reviews I was sure it would drop down to 2560x1440 (which I knew would work for the laptop since that resolution is on a 27th gen -inch Apple monitor was used). It turns out my MacBook Pro gave me multiple interpolation options on the S2817Q: 1280x720, 1600x900, 2048x1152, 2560x1440 (same as Apple's 27-inch monitor) and 3200 x 1800 (interestingly, there is no 1920 x 1080, which I don't think would be a problem.) On a 28" display, even the highest resolution was easy to read, but now I choose 2560 x 1440. It lets simply with the supplied Connect mini display port to DP cable. A power cord, HDMI cable and USB3.0 AB cables were also included. I find built-in speakers with a subwoofer borderline at best. Bass comes out of the subwoofer, but it sounds dirty and the high frequencies are too plastic for my liking. Access to the monitor's speakers is via either a standard 3.5mm stereo cable or via a mini-DP connector. While I'm not a gamer, I will still use dedicated speakers instead of a monitor. The monitor also has a USB 3.0 hub, but with only two outputs, it's not as useful as it could be. Still, it's better than nothing for an external Time Machine drive and an Apple keyboard + mouse. The monitor was $339 through the Revain Warehouse, and although it's only been a few hours, I'm happy to give it 5 stars. Dell 4K S2817Q 28" LCD monitor with integrated subwoofer
