The only product that changes style and unnecessary technology more than car models are umbrellas. Often not for the better. I found the Totes website less than helpful and had trouble figuring out the closed shapes and proportions of the Totes umbrella. The product thumbnails in their catalog only show the open/expanded configuration, I had to click on each product to view the closed configuration. The new strap gets 1 star with a capital F. First, the old straps were like heavy, woven, strong laces and simple. I will never let you down New tapes are artificial garbage. Instead of a single lace, the new slings are a knot, usually with a less secure elastic loop. Long lasting, less durable but I think there is still a lifetime guarantee. The elasticity creates unwanted bouncing when carrying the umbrella. A rubber band fails much sooner than a shoelace. I really don't like the elastic solution. Next is a Totes-branded hub component that reduces the strap to a heavy-duty floss floss that connects to the grip. This also does not inspire confidence. Unfortunately, the handle is not designed in such a way that I can retrofit the umbrella with a better cord. Actual product photos hide lace details. To their credit, Totes carries a decent lifetime warranty. Hoping they will replace the straps for free without the $5 shipping fee.
