Closes very tightly for food storage

These jars were just the right size and the large openings made them easy to clean. The only drawback at the moment is the tab for closing the wire. It will snap very hard and hit the glass. It often hurts like Dickens to pinch a finger while protecting the glass. I'm afraid if you slam it multiple times it may cause the glass to shatter. It hasn't happened yet, but it worries me. Our smaller plastic set, similar to this one, has a flat metal bar that is half an inch from the container when closed. Very easy to close and open carefully! I wish this glass set had the same. I'm currently looking for a Macgyver variant to fix this.
