Replacing an existing mount with this mount may cause sizing issues. Some old lightweight cans have an internal width of 6.5 inches and therefore a 6.5 inch gap between the two pieces that hold the wire spring of the collet. This product has a 5 inch spacing between the retaining spring wires. So while you can get the spring to hook initially, when you push the bracket flush, the spread becomes too great. The solution is to remove each spring clip, straighten the first bend in the wire, and then make the same bend an inch higher. Do this for both legs of both clamps. Attach the spring clips. Now it fits perfectly in a wider can. The light quality is excellent.
