The first thing I did with my TL-16 was compare its accuracy to another pedometer I had bought at one of the major retail stores by simply looking at a known number of steps while wearing both pedometers. The TL-16 was more accurate than its predecessor. Be sure to read the supplied instruction manual. The most common mistake is to attach it to the boot in such a way that the pedometer points in the wrong direction. The numbers on the pedometer should be correctly positioned (readable) when you look at your shoes. The second common misconception is that the pedometer turns off automatically when you stop moving, but turns on again as soon as you take the next step. Don't worry if the display window goes blank while you're not moving. After purchasing the TL-16, I received two emails from the supplier, one of which contained a step counter FAQ. I only used the pedometer mode as that's how I set my exercise goals at the moment, but there are also modes for distance traveled and calories burned.
