Review on ๐Ÿ’ป Dell UltraSharp 30 PremierColor LED Monitor with HDMI - 73GTT, 60Hz by Daniel Acquah

Control and connectivity are much worse than previous 30-inch Dell monitors.

I bought this to replace an aging Dell U3011 and it was a real disappointment. I couldn't tell any difference in picture quality, I guess I'm spoiled. Dell no longer offers DVI cable connections, which is a much bigger problem than I first realized. I'm using my monitor with KVM, so I need to either get a KVM that supports HDMI or DisplayPort, or convert the DVI that comes off my current KVM. KVM switches for DVI don't support native 2560 resolution, all switches for DisplayPort seem to have trouble keeping USB ports functional, and there doesn't seem to be a way to convert DVI Dual Link (2560 resolution) to HDMI or DisplayPort . So it seems that this monitor is pretty much useless with KVM. I thought about using the monitor itself as a KVM, but the input selection is clunky and difficult to use. The buttons are located under the monitor's bezel and require two hands, one to press the button and the other to prevent the monitor from tipping. The cable connections on the back were also difficult to reach. The older U3011 had wire pictures under the connector so you can see which way the wire needs to be twisted. There are no such images on the new monitor, so you have to crawl under it to see it. Dell helpfully (?) suggests tilting the monitor 90 degrees, but that would require longer cables for me. Why not take photos for $1,000 to make it easier?

Pros
  • Very good monitor and reasonable price.
Cons
  • Color balancing: If the colors on the display are not precisely calibrated, the display can appear washed out or too bright.
