I took great care not to over tighten these but at very low torque the wing nut (which appears to be stainless steel) stripped the external threads inside the joint (which appear to be off an alloy of tin and hope). I've never seen a thread fail so spectacularly. When I see one star ratings for faulty parts I usually assume mechanical incompetence on the part of the user, but from a materials science perspective I think the manufacturer is to blame. (Note that after disassembling it, I didn't see any of the plastic internals mentioned in other reviews - interestingly, the inner metal is so soft they thought it was just plastic.) I gave it two stars for build quality. for the rest of the product. The brushed nickel was perfect. Judging by the reviews, your mileage may vary.
