I carefully selected this model just over a month ago because it was a Nikon camera and my previous point and shoot (which was housed in a waterproof underwater case) just died after 9 years was. My biggest concern was the lack of a secondary barrier to water ingress. It worked great the first 3 times I used it. I was very impressed with the image quality and after carefully following the care instructions for the device, no water droplets were observed in the seal after using seawater. Fourth time I used it in the surf and after about 20 minutes I noticed water vapor. on the screen. I immediately turned off the camera, let the sea water sit, washed it in fresh water, dried it with a towel, and then sat in the sun until the steam disappeared. That day I stopped using the camera and didn't open the seal. The next day the camera worked perfectly. When I opened the seal, I found sand particles in the compartment that stores the battery, card, and ports. I love taking pictures underwater but now I'm much more afraid of damaging my device because of the experience. And while I'm still generally impressed with Nikon's technology, in this case I can't help but be disappointed with the camera's water resistance. I advise buying with caution.
