We bought them for camping in the mountains near the river. These are the only shoes my daughter wore for the entire trip, even on the hikes! They didn't tear, they were very tight but not tight and they were strong. The bottom has thick rubber that doesn't add much weight and won't rub your feet even with a thick brush. In the water they slipped a little more and while paddling she took them off because the water got between the soles of her feet and the actual boot and slowed her down. In the end a good buy. Also, if someone cares, they fade very quickly when drying in the sun.
