To start we have 11 cats so we have tried MANY types of bars, trees and claws and are currently using them. In over 20 years of keeping cats I have learned to pay attention to what they like and need. This particular cat tends to climb up door frames. Straight. She destroyed the door frames in my husband's old apartment. We recently moved into a new house and soon she started climbing on the door frames. We needed a solution that would allow her to keep her natural sperm without destroying our new home. This scratching post certainly helped us with that. Amalia loves this scratching post and uses it all the time. Although other cats scratch the floor, it's the only one that fits on part of the shelf. I would say that part of the shelf is small. Amalia is an above-average small cat and particularly agile. Other cats stop trying to climb there because it just doesn't work for them (although they have plenty of other places to climb). For us it works exactly as it should.
