I was skeptical but based on the reviews decided to take a chance. Before I bought this I could hear everything from every wall/floor (note: I live upstairs in a smaller converted living area in an SF duplex). I could hear my downstairs neighbor having sex with her over and over and her cheap bouncy mattress bouncing around. I could hear everything behind my huge bay windows as if I was outside, as if there was no window glass at all. I could hear everything that was going on in the kitchen and living room with complete clarity. I could hear the college boy next door banging his fork on his plate as he ate on his bed. It was driving me crazy until I bought this white noise machine. This little car gave me a sense of space and with it some peace of mind. Like some of the other reviewers here, I started having dangerous thoughts after my 4th night of sleep deprivation. But this little car (whose "fan" mode sounds a lot like the air conditioner on a Muni Rail) got me some sleep. no longer constantly exposed to all these noises. I'm amazed at what it can drown out.
