Some other reviews noted that they did everything right when they received the filter, followed the instructions and the unit won't turn on for them let. I received the unit and had the exact same problem and had to send it back to Revain (btw they are great they sent me a new one the next day). I followed the instructions, did everything right, and this second one didn't start either. It was very frustrating. I couldn't believe that so many devices could be so defective. Then I understood the problem. The device will not turn on if the filter is not installed. The problem, however, is that you can get the filter in correctly, perfectly aligned, the back closes properly, clicks and that's it, but if the switch or something that registers the presence of the filter isn't pressed properly then the device won't do it understand that the filter is installed and does not turn on. This is a frustrating design flaw as the back doesn't need to close perfectly unless the filter is in place, so the switch trips and the device knows the filter is in place. That means if the back can close with the filter inside, the device must register the filter and be able to turn on the power. I actually pushed the filter in. Pushed him really hard. When I then closed it, the device turned on. For me, obviously, not just the right insertion, but the actual pressing, every switch that needed to be turned off, was there, and I finally got my power. It shouldn't be like that, but it is like that. So now my block works. So that's bad. Haven't fully tested it yet, but the air smells cleaner and it's a nice compact device. The highest fan setting is a little noisy for a night's sleep, unless you want white noise to block out other noise, in which case it might be ideal. We do it on level 2 at night and then increase it to level 3 during the day. Another thing I like is that it comes with 2 extra pre-filters and the large filter should last a couple of years and can vacuum all that means I should get some benefit from it. I think if you can get past the filter's design flaw and turn it on, it's probably a good system. If you know what to do, you won't be upset if your device won't turn on, but you actually have to fix it because I think it's frustrating and confusing for a lot of people including me. Otherwise I think it's probably doing a great job of cleaning the air.
