I love this duvet! It's not very thick, but since it heats up, it's not necessary. It is very soft and comfortable and lasts longer than many electric blankets. This quilt has three settings, although I think a high setting would be too much. I have fibromyalgia, which gets worse when I'm cold. The medium setting is ideal for colder days, but the low setting is good for "everyday" use. It turns off automatically after about half an hour, which is very convenient if you forget to turn it off yourself. I would definitely recommend this blanket if you suffer from chronic colds or want something extra to keep out the chills during the colder months. Yes, as other reviews have noted, it feels like the wires are in the duvet when covered, although I usually forget about them after a while. If you're just looking for a regular blanket, a thicker, unheated blanket might work for you to avoid cords.
