Review on ๐ŸŽฎ Thrustmaster TX Racing Wheel Leather Edition (XBOX Series X/S, XOne & Windows) by Pamela Ervin

Great steering wheel, especially the exchange!

I give this product top marks because it works very well, but I had problems with it. I ordered this in early mid-April to use with the X-Box One which I also ordered. I love Microsoft's "game" Forza Motorsport and almost never use the X-Box for other games. I have an X-Box 360 running Forza 3 and 4 from 2010 and really enjoyed playing it with the Microsoft Force Feedback Wheel. Since Microsoft doesn't make a steering wheel (yes, they feature Mad Catz on their website, but it's not a Microsoft steering wheel), I read the Thrustmaster TX reviews and bought it. I read that some users had issues, but like some of them, I figured my careful use would ensure I didn't end up among them. The wheel arrived and after following the manufacturer's upgrade instructions I installed it first. It worked GREAT! Using this steering wheel with the game physics of X-Box One Forza 5 gave a very realistic experience. The simulation moved from "arcade" imitation to the feeling of driving real street cars. I noticed that the steering wheel required a lot of resets from me, I had to unplug the USB and plug it back in when the FF disappeared. Also, the engine cooling fan noise sometimes lasted indefinitely after the X-Box was turned off and only stopped when I unplugged the USB. In addition, I regularly noticed the characteristic "engine smell" of an electric motor malfunction, although I never saw "smoke". to make sure the device cools down after using it for an hour or more. Then, 6 days ago, the wheel suddenly stalled in the middle of the race. like the power was off. I checked everything closely and when it didn't reignite I let it cool for a couple of hours to see if that helped. Nothing. After trying for two days, I contacted Thrustmaster via email and they responded fairly quickly. They had a list of suggestions to try and I tried them all. Still no power. But there was this smell that I had noticed before, and this time it didn't seem to go away. I contacted Revain, selected a replacement and received a new bike within 48 hours! Can't win! I mounted a new wheel yesterday and it works great. I would like to note that at this point in the game I didn't have any of the issues I had with the original steering wheel. I didn't have to restart and didn't notice any fan noise or engine smell. I'm very happy with the actual use of this wheel, especially when compared to the old Windows Microsoft feedback wheel and the X-Box 360 FF wheel. And they're way ahead of the Mad Catz Wheel, which I also own and threw away with the X-Box 360. Update: After a week or occasional use this new wheel is working perfectly. I didn't have to restart while using it, and the fan only comes on intermittently and for a short time. I notice that it seems necessary to unplug the steering wheel USB from the X-Box even when it's powered off. This morning I noticed that the wheel fan is on even though the X-Box One was off a few hours ago. I couldn't find any advice on this from Thrustmaster. Update week 2: The wheel still works very well. My only complaint would be that the wheel rotation setting is not retained when the USB is unplugged and reinserted. By that I mean I prefer to use the wheel at a 270 degree setting rather than the 900 degree setting, which the wheel resets to as the 'default'. When I connect the USB cable to my computer to use the Thrustmaster control panel, it shows that the wheel is currently set to 270 degrees. However, when I reconnect to the X-Box, I always have to go to the Controller Settings tab, which is a bit opaque, and change the settings to 270 in the Forza game. once done, everything works perfectly. Compared to the issues I had with the original bike, I can live with this bug.
