Review on Dorman 923-227 LED Center High Mount Stop Light for Chrysler, Dodge, and Volkswagen Models by Dave Hammon

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Five stars for a great replacement product that is much cheaper than the retailer!

This item was a direct replacement for the dead CHMSL (third brake light) on our 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. It appears to be OEM quality, fits perfectly and works as expected. On our van, the light is mounted in a rear "spoiler" that is attached to the top of the tailgate. Using finger pressure, remove the upper panels around the window to reveal the four screws that secure the spoiler to the tailgate. By the way, there is no need to disconnect the wiring harnesses that supply power to the tailgate lock or the windshield wiper; The only wiring harness that needs to be disconnected attaches directly to the lamp itself. After unscrewing the four screws, a hidden fifth fastener will appear, located in the central part of the spoiler, approximately behind the lamp. You cannot access it directly, either inside or outside the vehicle. It slides on a rail that attaches the center of the spoiler to the tailgate; To remove it you need to move the spoiler (forwards or backwards? I don't remember now) to loosen the fastener from the caterpillar. Google for more explanations. I actually had more trouble lining this mount for reinstallation than removing it, but both operations left me scratching my head a bit. Be prepared; If you're seriously considering doing this job yourself, you've probably encountered similar problems with zippers before. If not, do some research, see if YouTube videos have been made, etc. and you can pull it off. Five stars for a great replacement product that is significantly cheaper than at the dealer!
