Review on Pure Tung Oil - 32 Fl Oz | Waterproof, Natural Wood Finish & Sealer by Hope's by Amy Washington

Don't Buy Anything Else

We first tried the cheap version from Home Depot, which disappointed us because we didn't realize it wasn't pure tung oil. Used it on wood countertops we installed last year. Follow the directions on the bottle, making sure to buff the wood between coats until completely dry and allowing a full 12 hours between coats. We didn't need to dilute the oil at all, but we did hand sand lightly between the first coats to smooth out the texture. Don't skimp on the oil, coat the surface and let it sit for a while. per hour and during this time look for dry spots that need more oil. Leaves a beautiful water-repellent finish and a slight sheen that enhances the beauty of the wood. Needs to be reapplied regularly, we had to reapply about 8 months after the first time, just means it doesn't work during the day. No odor really, maybe a faint, slightly sweet odor. It is an oil and therefore, like any other oil, highly flammable.

Pros
  • PROTECTS - Resists moisture, alcohol, oil and everyday wear and tear for long-lasting beauty and protection; lasts many times longer than products based on mineral oil and paraffin
Cons
  • The list is long.
