The higher perforated edges allow for larger shovels, and once you lift them off the pad they fall out quickly. The bottom pores are also longer, which filters sand much faster than regular pores. It does a pretty good job of catching dirty things with the same efficiency as your regular ones, despite having longer pores on the bottom.
