After soldering the XT30 connector, DSMX receiver and camera and reassembling my assembly, I noticed that the direction of rotation of the motor was problematic. After not seeing the BLHeli support advertised on the product page I went down the cable cutting/soldering route but just wanted to give it a try. And it looks like I got lucky, BLHeli_S (via the BLHeli configurator) worked like a charm. , and that way I could change the direction of individual motors. Also, I had a weird "flip after landing" attitude in the BetaFlight modes. I had to remove that as well before I started seeing acceptable results. After all the fixes mentioned, everything seems to be working great so far.
