With this SMALLRIG counterweight mounting plate and a set of 2 weights of 200g, 100g and 50g I was able balancing my Canon EOS-R with a medium weight (1.4lb) Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 lens. I use 350g weights in the rear position on the mounting plate to balance them on the Ronin SC. It works great in underslung mode and I can easily switch to flashlight mode and do 360 degree spins with this lens and weight combo. I can also balance the gimbal with fewer counterweights using a 1.2lb Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 wide angle lens. This lighter lens also allows me to attach a hot shoe phone adapter and balance with an iPhone 11 in a protective case. Sure, you can't switch to flashlight mode with an iPhone adapter, but it does a great job in Active Track mode, creating videos following the grandkids as they run around the sprinkler on a hot July day. The field of view with this combination is similar to that of an iPhone, so tracking is easy to set up. OTOH, I couldn't balance the Ronin SC gimbal with the EOS R and a heavy 1.8lb Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II lens, even with a combined weight of 700g. To balance the EOS R with this or any other heavier/longer lens you will need either a mounting plate with an extension on the back to balance the center of gravity or just buy the Ronin S.
