Perfect for the above average car enthusiast

I really like this code scanner and diagnostic box. This creates a great balance of functionality and value for the home car enthusiast. I used to buy several different basic code readers and scanners and one of the biggest problems was that they were so flimsy that I got frustrated when using them. I could never tell if the device was thinking, or the system was slow, or it was stuck. With this device, it's pretty clear what it's doing, and the touchscreen controls are very responsive and less distracting than cheaper directional button models. I have attached a live video diagnosing an abs issue I was having with my truck. The problem is that the local mechanic couldn't tell me what to replace. Although this device is way more expensive than some of the others that do very similar things, after using it I am sooo happy with it. From oriental usability to a large screen that makes reading information much easier. Especially if you do real-time diagnostics and want to see multiple items together on the chart. You also have the option to export these logs as PDF or CSV files. While $200 is nothing compared to the thousands of stores that pay for their scanners, it's still significantly more than the $50-60 most home users are willing to pay. I chose this because it also helps me reset some maintenance reminders on my cars (which I will pay for myself). A couple of minor complaints I have is that the case has molded grips like the Pro devices, but it's not rubberized. While this isn't a big deal, it doesn't give you a less secure grip on the device, especially when you're driving straight. The OBD connector is also fixed so it doesn't get stored in a pretty socket packaging (this is more important to me as I won't be using it often). Lately since I won't be using it all the time I could use some sort of storage bag as well. All in all, these are the best scanners I've used in terms of functionality, speed, and information. I wish I had dug in a few of the cheaper ones and jumped straight into this one, I would have spent less overall.
