Bought a 1.6ft cable to connect a Macbook Pro 15 (2018) to a LG monitor 43UD79. The cable was sensitive from the start. When moving the laptop with the cable attached, the monitor turned off and then turned back on. I believe this cable was damaged to begin with. I tested it on all 4 USB-C ports and the same thing happens. It's too late to return. Bought an Apple Thunderbolt 3 cable to avoid this problem in the future. If it doesn't flicker, I can output 10-bit video to the monitor. This tells me Thunderbolt 3 is being used correctly. A longer cable only provides 8-bit video.
