Not that bad. - Litter & Burglary

I decided to buy this cat litter mat not because I could catch extra litter, but in the hope my two cats would stop chasing their litter through my 900 square Garbage literally ends up on everything: my sofa, my desk and even my bed! I clean every week but the kitty litter always comes back within a few days. I used one of those cheap $10 Arm & Hammer cat litter mats you can get at Walmart that didn't work so bad when I only had one cat. My first cat has a medium length coat and sometimes has litter in her extra fluffy paws, but I never really noticed that until I got a second cat. She's an AGGRESSIVE digger who dumps trash not just out of my Litter Robot, but all over the world, including herself, and carries more into the home. I love my cats (enough to spend $400 on a self-cleaning robotic toilet, it's worth it btw), but spending $40 on a cat litter mat was painful. I was desperate so with all the decent reviews I bought it thinking it might be worth salvaging some of that scattered junk. First of all this rug is a decent size, larger than the rug I had but a little smaller than I was hoping for. Second, all I could smell upon unpacking and unpacking was the TERRIBLE smell! It smelled very strongly of foam, so I threw it onto the balcony to bask in the sun and get some air. After a few hours the smell was gone, so I brought it back into the apartment and quickly threw the old one away. It was stained with feces from an unfortunate incident and I had a hard time kicking out and washing out the litter box (it was never entirely clean), so I didn't go back to that. I used this litter box. The mat has been around for about two months now, and while the mat hasn't helped my cat litter problem to solve the housing problem as I had hoped, I can still say I'm very happy with my purchase. The rug is on top of the laminate right in front of the cat filler and I NEVER realized how much trash my new cat would throw away! So much so that for most weeks it has filled in the holes in the mat and sits above the crest. Definitely enough to dump back in the cat box. It's a bit awkward to dump again, but that's mainly due to the shape of the Fill Robot's opening, and the more I tilt it, the less dirt gets past the short guard rail at the opening. Yes both short ends of the mat are open so care must be taken not to tip them backwards and I think it would be easier to pour from the corner of the mat but I can live with this mat design. In my opinion this is not a big problem. And I saw some other reviewers say it was uncomfortable to stand on, but I didn't realize it was uncomfortable until I stood on it for a while. It's a bit soft when you step on it, but overall the foam is pretty firm and very durable. I've had to clean it before because one of my kittens decided to walk sideways on the carpet and left a stain on it, but some hot water. Rinse and some soap and rinse completely. No harsh smells or residue and I let it dry outside. Super light compared to my old carpet and a hell of a lot cleaner. It doesn't stay in place like my old rug, let's say cats run around, they can move the rug from where I want it pretty easily, but it doesn't happen very often and can be easily fixed. Overall I'm very satisfied, but I would feel better if this mat was a little cheaper.
