My husband is addicted to boxer shorts that I make for him to sleep in. His last set is three years old and the construction has held up, but the fabric has deteriorated. "tired" after several washes. I used another pattern I was given a few years ago and I'm an experienced seamstress, but even for me this pattern has too many details and it's not "simple sewing", especially the button placket and fly . . After making boxer shorts for my son from an old pattern this Christmas, I decided to look for an easier and quicker pattern AND I FOUND IT IN THIS AMAZING, EASY TO MAKE 2-PIECE PATTERN! I'm in love! If you are new to sewing I think this is a great pattern because not only are there 2 pieces and there is NO separate pole to play around with, the instructions and charts are amazing! My only concern is that I haven't found layout charts particularly useful. They would let Mike's salamander crawl sideways and all the sea turtles would either swim on the surface or in the ocean depths. But it doesn't matter! I changed the layout and was able to lay out the fabric so the animals went where I wanted! This is not an unusual step for me. I learned to sew in 1959 from Angry Old Grumpy Miss Eisenberg, our high school sewing teacher, and one of the first things she taught us is that a pattern layout can only be considered a suggestion as long as we make sure that these are printed arrows follow the texture of the fabric! As you can see the pair of boxers came out great and this morning I'm hoping to finish the long pant version which is a nice solid blue. At this price point, getting a simple pattern of boxers and pajama bottoms in one envelope is a dream! Oh another thing I love is that this pattern comes in a variety of sizes. In addition, there is a minimum of markings that can confuse a beginner. I keep a roll of patterned tissue paper in my sewing room and I always mark the size of the pattern I want to use rather than cutting out the pattern. In my current project, both husband and son are skinny, so I circled the size Small. This leaves me with an uncut template to trace the medium back to my other two sons. I really think you will be satisfied with this template. The only danger is that you won't want to stop making them! Luckily I only have three people to sew with. how many do you have
