I just received this phone holder today and am still impressed with the feel and quality. It's all metal and has a good weight. First I needed something compact. Second, I wanted something strong so it wouldn't break if you hit it. The gmc 2017 has few places to mount something that doesn't get in the way. It holds the phone very securely and sticks very well to the dashboard with the included 3m tape. I always clean the area with rubbing alcohol and heat up 3m of double sided tape before applying to ensure the best adhesion and have never had a problem. Time will tell how this product performs. I will also add that you will have a very difficult time getting anything that sticks to the textured area like most modern plastic strokes do. I suspect the negative reviews that had sticking issues were trying to apply to a very textured or rough surface. A little texture should be fine if you clean the area with rubbing alcohol and heat the glue with a hair dryer before applying.
