I regularly hike to places that only have designated areas for camping and they all have problems with very hard ground at the campsites. Steel stakes will do, but they are heavy. Good aluminum v-pegs will work, but you'll need a hammer. If you pound aluminum V-stakes with a rock, they get really sharp eyelids that will cut through anything -- a stake bag, a backpack, a tent, your hands, and it's really not funny. I bought these stakes thinking they would be strong enough to withstand rock chips so I can leave the hammer at home. Unfortunately not - they don't break and don't penetrate the ground very well, but the problem with sharp edges is still there (and not as bad as aluminum V-posts). Either way, these are good bets. They look like the pictures, the weight of one bet is 18g. They stick to the ground very well.
