Definitely not "40% brighter" than standard. However, they are completely sufficient for the intended use as a low beam. But they are nothing special, just good enough. They're affordable, a little brighter than standard Sylvania bulbs, but not by much. A good buy for the price. However, if you're looking for an upgrade, select a few LEDs and set them up properly for the load they're putting on your alternator and battery. LEDs are much better for your car than these or "HIDs" because they use less power and produce more light for the energy used. However, traditional older car systems that are not designed for LEDs are inherently incompatible with LED headlights. An adapter is therefore required in connection with a load corrector. But if you just want to replace what you have, and that includes halogen bulbs, then that's fine. Choose the more expensive/expensive Sylvania lamps. They make excellent lamps and give a long guarantee on their products. However, I have no complaints about these lights. They work exactly like the ones I removed, they were easy to install and have been in use for at least a few months now with no problems. The best thing you can do for your headlights is to adjust them properly. I don't feel like explaining how to do this so do your search, there is good information everywhere and you can usually find it in the 'self-service' section of your user guide.
