Review on 🧡 Bonlux LED Sewing Machine Light with Magnetic Mounting Base - 30 LEDs, Flexible Gooseneck Lamp for Home or Sewing Machine by Rachel Jones

Suitable for illuminating sewing machines or workshop lamp

This lamp works well as a sewing machine lamp and can also be used as a sewing machine work lamp. The light is quite bright - I would estimate at least 30-50 foot candles given the length of the flexible arm. The beam spread is wide, probably 70-90 degrees, like a searchlight. The magnet is strong enough to be securely attached to the back of a sewing machine, drill head or table. Mine was quite well made, although the white plastic is actually more of a beige color and had a very small defect. The flexible arm stays where you put it. As a former engineer, I feel compelled to point out a very small issue: With this flashlight, the power cord goes straight to the switch housing, so there is 120V inside. The back of the switch housing is metal (for the magnet). The cable connector is not polarized. The light is very Chinese - it comes in retail packaging printed with Asian characters and has no regulatory approvals (like UL or ETL). Therefore, there is a small chance that the flashlight's failure modes have not been fully evaluated for the US market, and you could end up connecting a power line to the metal the flashlight is attached to (as well as the flexible mount). in the event of an insulation break inside the circuit-breaker housing. Larger, more expensive devices usually have an external power supply listed as "wall warts" which only provides a limited amount of 5V power to the device itself. This problem bothers me no more than the cardboard insulation on the sockets of Edison socket lamp switches for old fashioned table lamps. I suppose I could try one of them just to feel better. The more important issue is that if you use this on a metalworking machine (e.g. a good bench grinder can easily do it) the metal shavings will be attracted. to the switch body. You can't blame the manufacturer for this - it's made for sewing machines, after all - but you might want a few wraps of cling film or tape around the switch to keep metal out. I'm going to buy a few more for another dealership.
