Revainrating 5 out of 5

Installed on a 2018 Honda CRV EX-L

First thing I did was disable the noise canceling module as many on the Honda forums say it doesn't react well with the subwoofer. There are websites that show how to do this. I used the front LT and RT speaker level outputs from stereo to the auxiliary amp inputs. I stripped some of the insulation from the factory wires and soldered my wires to them. Be sure to use electrical tape or shrink tubing to insulate the wires. I routed this wire (there aren't enough wires for the reach in the kit so I'll have to lay my own) to the rear under the passenger side trim. I routed the 8 gauge wire from the battery (I used the built in fuse on the battery) through the grommet in the firewall (I used a screwdriver to poke a hole in it). It exits behind the steering column under the dash, so the cable needs to be zipped up and moved out of the way. I attached it to the factory wiring harness that runs from the driver's side and then routed it under the driver's side trim to the end. There is a ground rod under the back seat upholstery which I used for grounding. I connected the ground wire and 12V to the quick connector (OrionMotorTech 6-8 Gauge Battery Quick Connect/Disconnect Harness) for easy removal of the subwoofer. Installing the whole thing took about 12 hours as this is a brand new car and you have to figure out how to get all the panels and seats out. Now for the sound test. The subwoofer sounds best when looking ahead! I was a little surprised because all the other cars I've put subwoofers in sound are best from behind. That's good because the subwoofer is less likely to be damaged by things in the background. It sounds very good and complements the missing low-end of the factory sound system. So I couldn't build a subwoofer for a little over $100. with an amplifier is cheaper. Last note. The subwoofer itself looks well made. It sits in its own sealed chamber, has large heat sinks, and a decent on-board component. I'm glad I bought it. A+ After an hour of driving and listening to music at a low to medium volume, everything sounds great. When I got home I wanted to feel how warm the amp was and it was quite warm. I don't know why Rockville didn't put vents around the amp because there is space and it's a separate pressure chamber from the slave case. I cut the vents above and below the amp to keep the heat out. Heat and electronics don't mix well, so we'll see if it gets colder.
