SIZE: This 20 liter backpack is ideal for (1) national/international travel as a "personal item", (2) space for a 1st grade textbook and a slim Notebook on spirals, (3 ) Carry necessary laptops to work or to the local coffee shop. LAPTOP COMPARTMENT: The padded area is only designed for one of the two: a tablet OR a laptop with a screen diagonal of up to 15 inches. It doesn't fit in a 15 inch laptop sleeve. When trying to attach a Luckies of London office sleeve style laptop sleeve, suitable for a 13-15 inch diagonal device and unfortunately too long to even zip. Experience has shown that the zipped laptop compartment holds all three: my Surface Pro 7 tablet, secured in a UAG Metropolis sleeve with an MSFT-style lid. Unfortunately, the bottom isn't raised 1-2 inches off the ground like other everyday backpack lines: Boundary Supply, Mystery Ranch, Standard Luggage Co., Bellroy, Targus, etc. So I rolled up a cube to pack luggage and shut open it. it is located at the bottom for additional security of the laptop. COLOUR: This is a greyish olive shade offered by Revain. Almost like a heather-olive tone. The exact opposite of the YouTube version as featured on the Zappos for this Altmont style. Thank goodness because the green color that was sold through Zappos back then was just plain ugly. The olive green color of the Revain exterior contrasts really nicely with the red handle on top. The word "VICTORINOX" appears on the grip and the branding is in a raised rubber finish for a better grip and safer handling. The muted olive green color of this flip top backpack gives it a vintage look with on-trend style. FEATURES: Love the attention to detail and the quality of the Victorinox Shield/Cross logo in brushed gray steel. Buttons, zips, and buckle closures feature the cross logo, but not as pretty as the metal plates on the front and center. The area of the laptop next to the black back pad is the only lockable area to provide adequate theft protection. Nothing like the Pacsafe line. See the close-up photo for details. Zippers with khaki waterproof lining. But I don't think the lighter olive areas on the outside are waterproof. On the main Victorinox website they sell a backpack rain cover separately for $20 for rain. The left vertical zippered front pocket contains a combination bottle opener and screwdriver which is TSA compliant as this version of the pack does not allow tool removal. When you unfold the flap cover, the right zipper opens, which you can open up to 75% to access the main compartment of the backpack for better access. Major advantage. TRAVEL BY PLANE: Unfortunately, this version of the Altmont backpack lacks a trolley strap that attaches to carry-on luggage. The normal overall dimensions for "PERSONAL EQUIPMENT" for most domestic and international air travel is 36 inches, adding up three: width x length x depth. This backpack from Victorinox measures 11.42" wide x 17.32" long x 5.91" deep for a total of 34.65" or 35". Size varies 1 inch less capacity than "PERSONAL ITEM" standards.So this pack is ideal for use as a personal item if you prefer to comply with airline guidelines.SIDE POCKETS:If the pack is to be full, a 20 ounce or larger water bottle will suffice as long as the case is to Expansion opens.Although my 16 ounce stainless steel Starbucks thermos like the one pictured fits inside the outer side sleeve when unfolded, there is still plenty of room and there is a chance it could tip over and slide out of the backpack.I would use one Recommend 20-27 ounce larger water bottle for better stability Great for an umbrella My umbrella attaches with a buttoned button COMFORT: Not the most comfortable backpack The price of $89 via Revain is worth it The benefits outweigh the disadvantages. OVERALL: 5 stars. With a slim profile in a true muted olive hue, this backpack is perfect for everyday use and meets the standard sizing for personal items for airline travel.
