They're pretty and don't like to hide clutter, but they should be light if you plan on picking them up and carrying them around a lot. They have steel wire frames at all corners, but you could actually use a cross or T-frame at the bottom. This is a weak point and if you store heavier items in it you'll see the bottom sag and hear a pop when you lift it. The lids also have a steel wire frame attached with jute twine that acts as a loop and then has a thin black elastic cord attached to the wooden knobs on the barrels. I don't usually close it because I store frequently used items in it. They are beautiful and great for storage as long as you don't need to pick them up and move them often. They're better suited for sitting on a countertop and accessing items without moving them, otherwise I think they might be short-lived. Hope that was helpful, thanks!
