Review on Crazybump by Todd Roybal

Revainrating 4 out of 5

CrazyBump is a 3D mapping software that allows users to create realistic bump maps for games or movies.

Crazybump was easy to use, generated great looking maps, especially the lighting maps! It did take quite a while to learn how to configure it and understand all the settings, but once that was sorted, creating maps was easy. Support is good, and documentation has improved over the years. However, sometimes the tutorials don’t make it clear that certain settings apply only to certain types of materials (e.g., materials containing a lot of glass) and the author could perhaps be clearer about the effects of various parameters.

Pros
  • Easy to use
  • Great looking maps
  • Good support
Cons
  • The tutorials are not always clear
  • Some parameters do not work with certain types of materials
