This is the first review I have ever written for a product. I'm writing because I want everyone to know what a wonderful experience I had with this lamp! I bought this for my first college dorm as a table centerpiece and night light and it did both great! Slow color changes are soothing and visually eye-catching. I often observe the graceful movements of jellyfish. It is good for relieving stress during exams or hard homework. It puts out a decent amount of light that allows me to see the room without disturbing my sleep. At first I was concerned about completing the seemingly complicated setup process, but all I had to do was soak the jellyfish in a cup of dish soap overnight, wipe it down with a tissue paper without rinsing it, and then fill the aquarium with water . . distilled water to an acceptable level before immersing them in water. I have never had to clean it and have had the lamp for over a year now. The water and tank stay as clear and clean as the day I installed the tank. There is no maintenance. The light has withstood my overuse with exemplary results. I leave it on almost all the time and yet it continues to work fine. There were no hiccups, no signs of quitting smoking. The only downside I found is that sometimes the jellyfish still walk on the ground, but usually they manage to detach themselves. This was more common in the first few weeks of my ownership, now very rare. All I do is peel it off (and you don't have to peel it off yourself unless you want to show your friend the floating jellyfish, because when the lamp automatically turns off after about four hours, the jellyfish keep swimming back to the Surface). the top of the aquarium to continue its dance after reactivation), shake the aquarium slightly or simply turn it off to allow the jellyfish to free itself and swim back up, then turn it back on. It's very convenient, just two big buttons: one to change the color cycle and the other to turn it on and off. Ideal for child or grandparent work. I've had so many compliments on it during my tenure. It's usually one of the first things people say when they come to my dorm (and there are many other new things about my dorm that you would think would evoke a stronger reaction). When a group of resident consultants inspected the premises, they were concerned the jellyfish were real! I've had five visitors who honestly believed they were real jellyfish (and I don't get many visitors so I'm sure a more open-minded owner could pull off more tricks). My cousin's daughter who is about 8 years old loves it so much! she wants one It's fairly easy to transport without spilling anything as long as it's not tipped over badly. It is not, and should not be, an airtight seal; Water will squirt out if knocked over or dropped. The lid isn't attached tightly or anything, but tipping the lamp over on a flat surface is difficult due to the weight of the water it's holding. However, I'm exceptionally clumsy and yet I've never spilled more than an ounce (that's because I accidentally tipped the box while loading the car to get home). I never had to change the water in the tank or add water to the tank. To keep it from falling apart in transit, I just put it back in the box and keep it during car rides, taking my stuff to the dorm, or taking my stuff out in the summer. This is the perfect, carefree, low-maintenance, beautiful, and fun pet for all ages! This is much better than having a real aquarium and paying both money and time for its maintenance. It is just as beautiful and just as complete. I wholeheartedly recommend this product and will buy again in the future!
