Review on Cocar Portable Computer Monitor - 1280X1024 & 1440X900P Compatible, 17" LED Display by Alan Drury

Revainrating 4 out of 5

UPDATED: Decent screen and speaker, but the stand needs a longer screw!

UPDATE: The screen is still good - and I managed to fix the stand (plus the seller is very responsive and has great communication). The stand screw turns out to be a bit short - I replaced the supplied screw with a longer one (M4-.70x16 - black screw - original, silver - new one that works) and it works fine. Meanwhile the seller was a pleasure to deal with and worked very hard to rectify the issue. If they include a longer screw, this is a 5 star device. As it is it's a basic 4 star device with a quick/cheap setup to make it a great monitor at a bargain price. ------------------------------------------------ -- ------------ -ORIGINAL REVIEW: The screen itself here (obviously the main attraction) is pretty reasonable. While 1440 x 900 isn't the highest resolution (below Full HD), you won't notice all that much on a 19-inch screen, and the color and brightness are pretty good. The image is crisp and the higher 75Hz refresh rate makes up for the slightly lower resolution. The controls and onscreen display are pretty average but easy to use which is a big plus. VGA and HDMI means you can connect a variety of devices. The power cord is a little clunky - it's not that long and can block other outlets depending on how you plug it in, but it's certainly acceptable. The speakers are loud enough but lack depth - my laptop's built-in speakers produce much better sound quality - but at this price point that's an added value. Any speakers in the monitor then why a 3 star rating? The stand is absolutely awful - mine doesn't even fit (even when 'pressed' with a hammer) and the screen that's supposed to hold it together is ripped right out. For the price it would be nice to get a working stand. You can use a universal VESA stand (100x100) with it, or a mount so you can overcome this shortcoming - and it might just have been mine that didn't work - but if it were fixed it would easily be a 4 or even 5 device stars. If you want a fast 19-inch white monitor, this is a good option, but it's worth buying a separate stand or mount.
