Used with a built in storage box I built in a playroom. See pic. The cover is made from 1" plywood and is about 48 x 32 or something like that. It's heavy as hell, but not fun. I needed it to (a) open easily because my kids store stuff in it, and (b) closes securely as my kids keep stuff in it. That ticks both boxes. I'll say the closure isn't as soft as a soft close drawer or anything, but it's certainly soft enough for kids no harm if moderately careful.I used 45lb supports. It's probably a bit more than I need but not so much that it's too hard to close the lid.My 9 year old can do this with no problem I used both supports on the lid - I recommend you do the same - balanced opening and closing is your best bet. Installation was easy but placement was a little tricky. I attached one of these in one spot and it s Turns out I was too far forward with the bottom clip and couldn't close the lid completely. I just moved it back about 2cm and everything was fine. It seems to me that you want to install them very close to the vertical. That is, open the covers vertically and install them straight up and down. If you can't raise and lower them perfectly evenly, you still have some free time. The goal is to have them fully extend when opening and fully retract when closing. I'm sure there's a calculation for this, but I really reeked of trigonometry and couldn't figure it out. I thought the only mistake was a pretty good guess. You can do it. These things are calm and strong. I am very happy. DON'T FORGET TO ORDER THE INSTALLATION HARDWARE!
