If you are unfamiliar with K Cups, you may not be aware that filled cups can vary in height. Not just the height of the mug, but how much gas is pumped into the mug to keep it fresh. So if you buy larger mugs and they use a lot of gas, then yes, drawers can be difficult to open and close. I personally use 2 of these countertop level devices with great success. I think if I was going to use this on the top shelf or if I had kids in the house I would choose: Niftyit's 54k coaster, it looks like it can handle a lot of height changes and stick better to its metal grille. Pro: The blocks are stackable, attractive, and let you organize your K-Cups. Keeps them close but out of sight. This block is plastic but I believe it should last at least 3-5 years when used by adults. Cons: Yes, it could have been designed with a little more space between the shelves to accommodate the change in cup height.
