Review on Panasonic PVDV852 Multicam Camcorder Viewfinder by Andy Hearshman

Good picture but readable on

We bought this from a store that had a lot of cameras hooked up and you were able to scan with all of them. This consistently had the most natural color and exposure. even better than some very expensive ones (of course, with some cameras with a display, you can't always tell which settings have been screwed up). After using the camera for about a week, we find that the indoor video is almost on par. broadcast quality. You would never guess that this is home video. It is very clean and properly displayed. Low light performance is also very good when using the Magicpix digital effect. It's not bad on the road either, but since it's a bit more complex you can tell it's not the travel channel you're watching (but it's still very good). And now the bad news. The optical image stabilizer is fine, but you still have to be very careful to get good video. It doesn't smooth out heavy shocks like electronic ones do. So I'm not satisfied with the stabilizer. Photos are good 1 million photos if you care, but no more. You are helpful. Surprise! The lens is mislabeled and does not support 43mm filters or optional lenses. It actually does NOT accept filters as it is 50mm (not 49 or 52) and therefore not a standard. So you can do without a wide-angle lens. This is a problem for us. without polarizer, no wide angle lens. So at this point we're not sure if we'll keep the camera.

Pros
  • Stores digital photos on included 8MB SD card; also compatible with MultiMediaCards
Cons
  • I will add later
