Review on RADEX RD1503 Dosimeter: Ensuring Accurate Radiation Detection by Devon Holmes

Small, inexpensive, works exactly as advertised

The first thing I did was a test. And it worked! The test was to see how this geiger counter performs at home, at work (big construction project) and with geological samples that I know are slightly radioactive (like natural granite). It works. It does exactly what it says on the tin and you can see how Geiger is reacting to his surroundings in real time (a small graphic is shown at the edge of the screen). Pros: The price is much lower than anything else I've seen on the market. . Almost every other violinist costs around $400. Serious. This takes active readings, vibrates (or clicks) when those readings are above a threshold. Has a backlight so you can see the screen in a dark basement and measures in both new microsieverts and X-rays (which I'm more familiar with). Sensitive to the materials I tested it on. Disadvantages: First of all, it is not clear how to insert the batteries. Apparently, both AAA should point in the same direction - side + up (which is unusual). In addition, there is a square pattern on the side of the screen that continues to draw lines while the violinist takes measurements. You'll get the most accurate readings in about 40 seconds when the entire square has been drawn. Understanding this required some effort and is not clear from the manual. Bottom Line: A strong, durable little tool that's great value and gets the job done right. I've tested it back and forth and so far I'm happy with the results. Solid recommendation.
