I used them for Halloween yesterday and they looked very cute, there are six in a pack so all my nieces could get one. Each hair tie consists of two parts: a ribbon and a thread that ties to it. Both separate parts light up separately, giving you 12 in total. The little switch in the hair ties has a pull tab for first use to save battery life so I'll wait to pull it out until you're ready, if you don't use them for a couple of weeks the battery seems to be long lasting. The only downside that could have been avoided is that the switch is sewn into the fabric. I'm pretty sure the batteries are replaceable, but you'll have to rip the rubber straps a bit to get to them. They could easily make it better by adding a small hole held in place by velcro. Overall I really like how they looked at night, the black one was the only one that was a little hard to see. I gave these five stars because you technically get 12 pieces to tie your hair with. The battery is also easily accessible with Velcro.
