Review on Suunto Novo Wrist Strap Adaptor by David Lusk

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Nice strap but doesn't fit the old D6i, questionable finish

I'm so sad to write this review. This is a beautiful band, much nicer than the original and it suits the new D6i Novo perfectly, but it doesn't quite match the older D6i. My entire rating is based solely on this belt's suitability for the old D6i. I can't confirm how well it will work with the new D6i. My original strap lasted almost three years, but it expired on the first day of a 23-day trip to Indonesia, which made things very uncomfortable (we MacGuyver put a split ring on an old strap anchor, which was then attached to a carabiner, on it was attached to a D-bar ring on my BCD, like I said, awkward). So I ordered this strap when I was still on a trip and it was waiting for me when I got home. Aesthetics: The webbing is nice. It looks strong, durable and comfortable. I liked that it was available in blue as almost everyone I dive with has a D6i and it's easy to mix them up. This is the only reason I gave this two stars. Instructions: But my D6i is the older version, not the newer version of "Novo". So it has a weird loop insert that attached an old watch strap to the watch (take yours apart, you'll understand). By the way, it would be very nice if some installation instructions for different types of computers were included, but it wasn't. Unfortunately (though fortunately for this purpose) I was well acquainted with the anatomy of the strap knot after the previous strap fell apart so I figured it all out pretty quickly. No instructions = no asterisks. Important installation notice. Before you attempt to install the strap, remember one very important thing: the screws that hold your old strap in place are in a recess on the FRONT of the computer, NOT on the back! Those on the back take off the back of the case, exposing the "innards" of the computer (including the battery). If your device is still under warranty then you don't want to bother with it as breaking the seal could void your warranty. Looking for. You will need a #6 Torx bit to remove the old screws on the old D6i. Inconvenient, you will need a Torx #5 bit to install the new ones that come with this belt. Quality problem #1: The curvature of the bezel doesn't quite match the curvature of the computer. So there will be a gap at one end or the other. (See the photos I posted with this review). Also, because this band is attached at a point in the middle, this gap will cause the band to rotate at the joint, which over time can potentially cause the joint screw to loosen. You can lose the belt and the computer along with it. That would suck. Quality problem 2: The quality of the screws that come with this tape is not acceptable. As said, a Torx #5 bit is needed, but the new screw almost completely snapped off almost immediately. This is annoying my big pet. For what you pay for this bracelet, it should come with spare titanium screws. Quality issue 3: I'm not sure if it's just because it was dropped or simply because it doesn't fit the old D6i properly, but either way you have almost an eighth of an inch screw head left on the front of your computer, because you can't screw it all the way in. This is the expectation of a break. Please see the attached photos for close-ups of all the above issues. I am awaiting return authorization and do not expect any problems with the seller on the return. This review in no way reflects the services provided by Revain or the seller. Unfortunately, I'll probably have to resort to the boring black strap.
