I received this coat just in time. I live in North Carolina and the weather is very picky. Just 2 hours after delivery, the temperature dropped and it started snowing. A few hours later I go outside for an hour with my 11 year old son in 23 foot weather (actually 16 feet). My son helped me choose this coat. I bought him a Colombia with an all penetrating thermal pad and he told me it worked great. I have to buy these. I LOVE IT! The whole hour on the road I felt incredibly comfortable, except for my hands. no gloves. The length is just above the knees. My height is 5ft 2in or so. I put the fleece on under my coat, leaving some space. I weigh about 110 pounds and bought xs. don't let the cold through. The all-absorbing thermal lining extends the full length of the coat and falls over the arms. I love how lightweight the coat is without being bulky at all. It looks and feels thin, but that's the beauty of down. To work, you need to be tightly packed. Actually you don't need that much. The fur appears thin. I don't recommend layering so many layers that the coat is taut. This will render the fluff ineffective. You need that layer of air in your lower pockets for it to work properly. If you want to wear more layers, you can order one size larger. I was wearing a tank top, thin fleece, and a coat, and I was warm enough. The hood is detachable. which I like very much. I used the hood outside for an hour and it worked great. The collar and hood kept your neck and chin warm. I pulled up the hood and was surprised at how uncomfortable it was. Other coats I've had, I hated hoods because they annoyed me. This is good. I will use it often. The pockets are lined with fleece and have zippers. But I would have liked more pockets. I have very small hands and they fit just right. I don't think they would easily fit a pair of gloves. I'll try the gloves in my pockets tomorrow to make sure. The coat is long so it's hard to zip up but I figured it out quickly. There is velcro along the zipper to prevent airflow which is nice. This gives it an elegant, clean look. All in all this is the best and warmest coat I have ever had. Between my son's coat and this coat, I sold Columbia. Like all my other coats. I will donate to an animal shelter.
