This is the third type of refurbishment fixture I use and I like the design that allows it to be locked behind the ceiling. They are suitable for thicker ceilings (ours is at least 1 inch, but the plaster is thicker in places). Competitive Halo and Nicor products cannot be mounted on such a thick base. For turning, you can use a small screwdriver or a master wrench. bar up when you install a device, and I really don't see why they shouldn't work with even thicker apps. I think I'll add a lock washer in the future or maybe even change the wing nut to a nylon lock nut as the baffle (or whatever you use) can loosen the wing nut. For the most part, not every baffle will work with a regular E26 bulb.
