This is the only pair of shoes my kids have on their feet. He is almost 1 year old, he is very active and running. We also live in a very cold climate so shoes are essential. He has a long and narrow foot, and every time we try to put shoes on him, he twists his feet. This shoe is soft on the inside and offers good grip, but the rubber and flexible sole is not difficult for a beginner. The Velcro closure and the large opening allowed us to quickly and easily insert our child's feet and adjust the shoes to his foot. Our son no longer struggles against us to put his shoes on or tries to take them off.
